The Main Drag

About ten years ago I was invited to an afternoon barbecue by a friend who was living in his childhood home in Covina, California.  After our meal, he proposed we go for a ride around the neighborhood, something I hadn’t done anywhere in decades.  Within minutes we were in downtown Covina, a place seemingly unchanged since 1955, a throwback to another era.  I was hooked, however, it took six years for me to revisit the town with the intention of making photographs.  By then the scope of the project had expanded to encompass all the primary thoroughfares of the San Gabriel Valley.
