Courtyard, Union Station, Alameda St, Los Angeles

Union station is kind of a mashup of Spanish Colonial and Art Deco architectural styles. The section of the building seen here is a clear example of the former, with a pair of light columns in front of it looking very Deco. Standing in the middle of the courtyard, with travelers crossing back and forth to make their trains, isn't quite like being anywhere else. It's at once familiar and alien, while conveying a sense of timeless calm in the middle of a busy urban landscape.
