The street entrance to Bullock's Wilshire was more of a formality than a necessity from the beginning. John and Donald Parkinson made the decision to orient the building toward the parking lot, where most of its patrons would enter instead of the street. It was the first major store in the country to do so and thus changed how architects would conceive of retail design. Car culture had arrived!
