Trompe l'oeil is defined as the technique of using realistic imagery to create an optical illusion of depth. Given that this corner building at Fox Studios would likely only be seen from a distance and never as the focus of attention, the level of detail is remarkable. The wall on the right preserves the illusion quite consistently, while the wall on the left incorporates a few surface elements on the real wall that don't quite add up. At the same time, a large studio door painted with the lower stories of a typical New York tenement would have had to remain closed to be convincing.
