Unlike in the real world when there's a need for a particular kind of building it can happen virtually overnight instead of taking months or years.  The fact that structures like the house taking shape here at Universal Studios don't have to do anything more than look like real, functioning buildings makes this possible.  Sometimes these facades are taken down immediately after they've played their part in a production, while others are left to take their place in the imaginary landscape of the backlot.
